A different approach to bookmarking your links

To Mac Geek Gab – November 2025

In last week’s show (#1115), a listener asked about bookmark management.

To me, bookmarks are like my garden; they’re either unattended and not of much interest or get wildly out of control.

These days, all of my bookmarks are in folders in the Safari Favourites Bar (View > Favourites Bar). Safari is the only browser that supports the Favourites bar on iPadOS (it is not supported in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge). I regularly curate these, but they rarely change.

I also have an Intranet for myself (that only I can see), and it’s done through Google Sites. It’s simple and free. In short, you create a webpage with all of your bookmarks as links. It takes an hour ot two to build. And it’s quick and easy to change as your needs or interests change.

You have access to it via a free Google account. You can keep it to yourself or share it with family, friends, colleagues or an interest group. You authorise who can see it via Google accounts.

Google Sites is pretty cool: Start page and explainer.

I have my intranet as my Home Page and Start Page on all of my devices.

I recently created a similar and simple intranet for a client that was shared among employees and contractors, and it quickly boosted productivity and reduced interruptions with “where’s this” type questions.

Give it a go!
