My local guides

The property

The room you are in was renovated in November 2023. The building is made with a lot of recycled materials. It is a part of the character of the house. Thus, some of the flooring, cupboards and other furnishings aren’t ‘spick and span’. Some of the floors have marks on them, and a few chips are in the bathtub’s enamel. As an environmentalist, I support the reuse approach, accepting that things aren’t perfect. Except for this room, nearly everything here pre-dates my arrival in August 2016.

For starters

  • The door to the hallway is open. Down there you will find the bathroom, toilet and washing machine. We share these.
  • You can hang things on the back of the bedroom door.
  • Towels are in the bedside tables.
  • There’s body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower.
  • Run the water to warm the shower up. If the hot water isn’t as hot as it should be, there’s a button with an orange light near the towel racks.
  • The bed is made with just one top sheet and or a doona. Two blankets are in the room.
  • If you get hot or cold, just put the air conditioner on (but please turn it off when not here).
  • An iron and ironing board are available if you need it.
  • There’s a folding line on the deck.
  • Bed sheets, towels and protectors are are available in the event of accidents.

Local eating and menus

Noisy wildlife

Some earplugs are in a jar on the shelf if the wildlife gets wild.

Cooking gear

I have some gear on hand that may be handy – air fryer, a small portable oven (suitable for pizza, veggies, etc), smoothie maker, rice maker, slow cooker and grill for meat and toasted sandwiches.

The bathroom

You are welcome to use anything with a GREEN DOT. You can leave your toiletries on the bench. You can hang your towels on either of the two racks as you enter the bathroom. There’s a latch on both the bathroom and toilet doors to ensure privacy. Please wipe down the wooden bench and sink with paper towels after use.

Garbage

There’s are two small bin in the rooms, which I will empty upon departure. Please put any recycling in the paper bag hanging near the window. If you are here for a while and have a bit of stuff for the red (general), yellow (recycling) or green (paper and plants) bins before your departure, you will find them under the house.

Cleaning

There’s some surface spray and paper towels in the room. A brush and dustpan is sitting on top of the fridge.

Medical

A small first aid kit is in the drawer (under the microwave). There’s a 24-hour hospital five minutes drive away: 43 Church Street, Bellingen6655 1266. There’s a chemist opposite the IGA supermarket on the main street. The Providore has basics.

Supplies

Tooth brushes, razors, head ache pills, condoms and lubricant and batteries are available if you need them.

Nearest raw food, made food, snacks, drinks, toiletries and alcohol

Bellingen Providore, 2 Lyon St (the roundabout), open 7.00 am to 8.00 pm (5 mins away).

Walking towards town

As you look up the driveway, cross the street, and go 10 metres to the right, to the right of a carport is a pathway down to Lyon Street. Turn left at the bottom of the path to get to the providore and town. Here’s a diagram.

Taxi

The taxi service is friendly and reliable and will pick you up and take you into town for about $15. The cab rank is opposite the pub. Call them on 6655 2221.

Swimming gear

There are some great swimming spots here – the Promise Land swimming hole and just down the road at the river. Towels are in the basket in the room. I have some reef shoes if you need them,

Picnic set

A modest picnic set is in a bag in a basket. Just grab some food from the Providore or IGA. An umbrella, table and fold-up chairs are under the house.

Departure

There’s nothing for you to do. Just leave the bed as is (unmade), as the linen will be changed. Please leave the corridor door open and pull the deck door shut.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome! Enjoy your stay! Thank you.
