There’s been quite an improvement in the widgets functionality in CarPlay with iOS 27. In short, you can have two columns of five widgets each to flick through. You can see my post on that here, together with a video and some screenshots.
But for the amateur radio operator, there’s an even cooler benefit. You can have a UTC clock as well as band conditions on your CarPlay screen, thanks to (1) the variety of clocks Apple now provides in iOS 27 and (2) installing the amateur radio toolbox app QRV.
QRV is a very good app in itself and runs on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Watch, and CarPlay widgets. The widgets also work well across the other devices. There’s also an Android version. And it comes in free and paid versions. I have it on all of my devices.
When choosing the widgets, you not only get those supplied by Apple, you get those provided by other app developers, including QRZ. Via my iPhone, I have chosen a clock that can be set for another time zone (In this case UTC) and the QRZ widget showing basic band conditions.
