What’s new in Apple Mac, iOS, iPad and the web based worlds for amateur radio operators – June 2026 (Second update for June) #amateurradio #hamradio

I have upped my Mac game this week with the arrival of a new M4 Mac Mini from the Apple Refurbished Store in Australia. I picked up a 16/256 for USD600 including Sales Tax. It’s for my amateur radio operators and I’ve written up a post on it.

SDR Play says iOS and Android apps are on their way for their SDR Connect servers

I recently picked up a SDR Play RSPdx-R2 and was instantly impressed. The radio is awesome and their SDR Connect software is best in class. I could run it in server mode from both a Mac and RPi5. I couldn’t connect to it however from my iPhone or iPad. There are no compatible apps and or web GUI f9r my model. If I wanted to do this, I would have to swap out the SD card on the RPi and run OpenWebRX+ in server mode. I did and it works fine. However, the software isn’t anywhere near as slick. I corresponded with SDR Play and they said only their nRSP-ST networked radio receiver offered both serving to the SDR Connect app or a webpage. So, the RSP-R2 went back and I’ve paid extra for the nRSP-ST. In my correspondence with SDR Play, I asked if iOS/iPadOS and Android apps were on the way. “Yes, a native IOS/Android application is in the works for the nRSP but I do not have a firm release date.“. This is great news. You can test drive their web app at this page.

HamGPT

The person behind the awesome DXlook.com, Rodrigo AK6FP / LU6ERV, has been working on an AI tool for amateur radio. I was excited to get his invitation to try the Beta and it too is awesome. It’s called HamGPT and Rodrigo has posted: “A new project is coming from the DXLook family: HAMgpt.co . It’s a practical AI helper for amateur radio operators, and I’m opening a small closed beta. Want to help test it? Email qso@dxlook.com with your name, email address, and callsign. Please also follow the new HAMgpt Facebook page: HAMgpt.co“. I tried it out this week and it’s pretty impressed.

Ham Daily

Ham Daily joins the growing list of dashboard type apps for amateur radio. I’d good look and has some handy features. I like the “News” and “Roundups” in addition to the real-time propagation, space weather and DX spots. From the developer: “Real-time propagation, space weather and DX spots — fused with a fast, always-fresh stream of ham radio news from across the web. Set it as your homepage and never miss an opening.

HamClock Launcher

HamClock Launcher has had a few updates. It is a GUI launcher for HamClock on Macs. From the developer: “Ham Clock Launcher is a macOS desktop application that simplifies launching and managing HamClock instances. It captures and displays HamClock’s output in real-time, making it easy to monitor the application’s status and debug any issues“.

Oscar Watch Launcher (Advanced users)

Oscar Watch Launcher is like MacDoppler for the Mac and SkyRoof for Windows. It tracks and manages your radio for communications with AMSATs. It ‘apparently’ works for Mac. I have contacted the developer asking him how to run the program on a M-series Mac. The European Ham Radio Portal and ICQ Podcast have both done write ups.

There have been a few other updates and they’re covered by Mac Ham Radio. Those not covered include:
