This is cool – #Coastsnap

The photo I uploaded

I was showing a friend around my area this week and came across this phone holder on a post at Hungry Head.

I hadn’t seen the installation before. I thought it was one of those phone holders to do selfies without holding the phone. I’ve seen a few lookouts. But no, it was for a different purpose.

It lines up your camera to take a snap of a section of coastline. You then scan the displayed code and upload it to a website called Coastsnap. There are hundreds of these mounts globally and many many photos which you can navigate to on a map.

According to the site: “CoastSnap is a global citizen science project to capture our changing coastlines. No matter where you are in the world, if you have a smartphone and an interest in the coast, we welcome you to participate!”

Well done to those involved. Very cool.
