QSO Director
QSO Director is an app for Mac, Windows and Linux for rig control and logging. It promotes itself as “QSO Director is a modern ham radio logging software platform designed to replace multiple tools with one seamless experience”. It’s not yet available for iOS or iPadOS. It’s a good looking app with lots of features. It costs GBP3.50 a month or GBP37.80 annually after a two week free trial. It can be downloaded from the QSO Director website.
DMOD SDR Receiver
DMOD SDR receiver is a client for rtl_tcp, SpyServer (Airspy and RTL-SDR), and KiwiSDR, according to RTL SDR dot com. “Demod is a solo project and is available on the US App Store for US$9.99. More information and screenshots can be found on the project website, and the app itself is available on the App Store.”
WSJT-X updated to 3.02
WSJT-X has been updated with two specific Mac bug fixes and improvements:
- macOS: fixes packages that could miss required data files on fresh installs, restoring FT8 callsign filtering, DXCC country names, grid-to-state lookup, and astronomical-data lookup.
- macOS: Intel packages are now built with a macOS 10.13 deployment target and checked to avoid bundled package-manager runtime libraries built for newer macOS versions, improving compatibility with older Intel Macs.
HamSat – iOS, iPad and Apple Watch
HamSat is another in the genre of apps that tracks the ISS and other repeaters circling the world. The app works well enough in a field where are several strong competitors. The most recent add-on to HamSat is Apple Watch integration where it helps you point your a Yagi in the director of the orbiter. It’s on the App Store.
Winlink for Mac
K8MRD reports: “This is a full featured Winlink program running 100% natively on MacOS. As far as I can tell it does everything Winlink Express does but we get to do it on our Apple Silicon Macs (no Intel Mac support). No Windows emulators either. This is what Mac users have been asking for for years.” Download.
RadioMail 1.6
Georges, WH6AZ, advises of RadioMail 1.6: “This release focuses on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. One of the biggest usability improvements is bulk message editing”. “RadioMail is a modern email app for off-grid communication on iOS. It is designed to provide a beautiful and intuitive experience for sending and receiving messages over amateur radio, using the Winlink network.”
Web apps
Oscar Locator: Oscar Locator shows you where various satellites are and when they’ll appear . It’s a nice looking web app.
Oscar Watch: Peter (MM9SQL) reports: “Thanks to Tim GW4VXE now have a much better install guide for MacOS on the readme for OscarWatch Tracker”. The installation guide is at GitHub.
Other stuff found
Whatcable: This is not exactly amateur radio but handy nonetheless. You can find out everything about your USB cables thanks to this app called Whatcable.
