Thanks to Alan McDonald (VK1AO and VK2MET) VK1 and VK2 Parks on the Air (POTA) coordinator, five more locations in Bellingen Shire have been added to the parks list.
Bellingen Shire is on the NSW North Coast and is bounded by Coffs Harbour City, Nambucca Shire and Armidale Regional local government areas. Its main settlements are Bellingen, Dorrigo, Urunga and Mylestom.
The five new pots locations are:
- Kalang River AU-11191: Kalang River rises within the Great Dividing Range, near Brinerville, and flows generally east before reaching its mouth at the Tasman Sea of the South Pacific Ocean, east of Urunga. The river descends 353 metres (1,158 ft) over its 77 kilometres (48 mi) course. (Gemini)
- Never Never River AU-11192: Never Never River rises on the eastern slopes of the Dorrigo Plateau, near Tallowood Point, east northeast of Dorrigo within the Dorrigo National Park, and flows generally southeast and southwest, before reaching its confluence with the Bellinger River, near Gordonville, northwest of Bellingen. The river descends 64 metres (210 ft) over its 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) course (Gemini)
- Rosewood River AU-11193: Rosewood River rises on the eastern slopes of the Dorrigo Plateau, part of the Great Dividing Range, within Dorrigo National Park east of Dorrigo, and flows in a meandering course south before reaching its confluence with the Bellinger River near Thora (Gemini)
- Mylestom State Beach AU-11194: Also known as North Beach, Mylestom is one of the Bellingen Shire’s best-kept secrets – a peaceful coastal village nestled between the Bellinger River and a sweeping stretch of uncrowded surf beach. (Visit NSW)
- Hungry Head State Beach AU-11195: Hungry Head Beach is a 2 kilometre stretch of natural beauty, backed by sand dunes and nearby picnic areas. The headland and picnic area offers breathtaking views of the coastline and a chance to spot local wildlife. (NSW Government)
I plan to activate these new locations in the coming weeks.
